Bowie Resource Partners LLC (BRP) produces bituminous coal producer, generating 15.8 million short t of coal sales in the 2014. It owns and operates three underground coal mines in Utah and one in Colorado.
Following idling of longwall mining due to developing a new longwall panel at Bowie #2 mine near Paonia, Colorado, BRP will scale back production at the mine. The company will keep evaluating the market for Bowie #2 coal and anticipates the new longwall panel developments will be completed in approximately twelve months.
The Bowie #2 mine currently employs 181 full time employees and 19 contractors. "Some of the affected employees will be relocated where possible to fill vacancies in other parts of the business; however, layoffs are unfortunately unavoidable," commented Gene E. DiClaudio, BRP's Chief Operating Officer.
It is estimated that 19 contractor and 78 full time positions could be eliminated.
