Atlantic Coal is to increase its fleet of Komatsu equipment at its Stockton coal mine, following the successful delivery of a Komatsu PC3000 hydraulic excavator. In total, ten additional pieces of mining plant have been ordered from Midlantic, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Komatsu, which is the world’s second-largest manufacturer of heavy equipment.
The new equipment will include four Komatsu HD785-7 100 t haul trucks for hauling overburden; these will join six similar trucks purchased last year. The company has also ordered two Komatsu HM400-3 articulated haul trucks for hauling ROM coal, a Komatsu PC490LC-10 hydraulic excavator for excavating ROM coal, two Komatsu D275AX-SEO dozers and a Komatsu WA500-7 wheel loader.
The purchased of the equipment is to be funded through an asset-backed lease purchase agreement at a total cost of US$20 million over six years.
“We anticipate that the acquisition of the new equipment will assist with our operational efficiency and enable us to meet our production goals for the immediate future,” said Steve Best, Managing Director of Atlantic Coal. :The new plant will be utilized across the full range of mine operations at Stockton and comes at an opportune time as we move into an area of high quality reserves of virgin coal.
