Arch Coal named as one of the top US business technology innovators
Arch Coal has announced the company has been named in the 2013 InformationWeek 500. The award recognises top US innovative users of information technology in business.
InformationWeek editor in chief, Rob Preston, said, “The theme of this year’s InformationWeek500 is digital business. It’s a movement, rooted in data analytics, mobile computing, social networking and other customer-focused technologies that are turning companies and industries on their ear.”
“Every enterprise is now a digital business – or needs to become one fast,” Preston said.
The introduction of mobile technology to Arch Coal’s mining operations helped the company meet the “digital business” theme of the 2013 InformationWeek. Arch Coal was recognised for the development of custom applications, such as real-time tracking of fuel and lubricant usage for technicians in the field, materials management for engineers onsite, and mobile approval for purchase requisitions, timecards and expense reimbursements for management.
"Deploying digital technologies in the field allows Arch Coal to increase efficiencies and lower costs," David E. Hartley, Arch Coal's vice president and chief information officer, said. "A team-based focus on continuous process improvement drives technology solutions. Mobile technology [saves] hundreds of hours of collective time each year, time that instead can be spent on more strategic efforts."
