Aspire Mining’s Mongolian rail infrastructure subsidiary, Northern Railways, has signed an EPC framework agreement with China Railway 20 Bureau Group Corp. (CR20G) covering the completion of engineering work on the section of the Northern Rail Line connecting Aspire’s Ovoot metallurgical coal project to the town of Erdenet.
The 547 km railway has been listed in Mongolia’s National Rail Policy, linking northern Mongolian provinces to existing rail infrastructure. The link will provide the Ovoot project access to Chinese and other international markets.
“We are very pleased to welcome CR20G as a strategic partner with Northern Railways to build this important rail project,” said Aspire’s managing director, David Paull. “We are also pleased to have the support of CR20G for access to Chinese financing and look forward to progressing with other interested financial institutions as we compile a total funding package.”
CR20G is part of China Railways Construction Corp., one of the world’s largest international rail engineering construction firms. With over 20,000 employees, CR20G has experience in completing rail projects in Angola, Mongolia and Mozambique.
