Tohuko Electric Power joins globalCOAL

Japan’s second largest coal consumer in the power sector, Tohoku Electric Power (Tohuko EPC)has joined globalCOAL’s online coal trading platform. The company serves 7.6 million customers in Japan’s Miyagi Prefecture. It owns two coal-fired power plants – the 1200 MW Noshiro power plant and the Haramachi 2000 MW power plant – and uses about 8 million tpa of coal.

With Tohoku EPC, globalCOAL now has 14 market members from Japan, representing 9% of total membership. Japan’s Electric Power Development Co. (J-Power) is also a shareholder of globalCOAL.
