Colombian coal exports fall in April 2014
April exports of coal from Colombian dropped 10.8% year-on-year to 5.403 million t, the first year-on-year drop in five months, according to data published late Monday by the country's statistics agency, DANE.
April coal shipments from Colombia were still the highest volume exported from the country since January, and were up 62% from March's figure of 3.33 million t.
DANE data showed total coal FOB sales in April at US$ 399.157 million, down 28.6% from April 2013 but 49% up month-on-month.
Exports from Colombia's second largest thermal coal producer, Drummond, resumed on 1 April after being banned by the local government since January.
Shipments from the US miner were stopped due to its failure to have its direct-loading port facilities operational by a New Year deadline.
