Hayes Fuels uses Powerscreen coal screeners

World Coal,

Irish coal importer Hayes Fuels has purchased two Powerscreen Chieftain 2100X tracked screeners from Powerscreen Ireland for the company’s Belfast docks operation.

Coal crushing and washing

The first 2100X is a two deck screener with a 90 mm top deck and a 6 mm self cleaning bottom deck. The oversize material is recirculated back to a small jaw crusher in a closed loop with the mid range material then flowing to a coal washing system at 120 tph.

After the coal is washed it is then conveyed to the second Powerscreen Chieftain 2100X three deck screener. This is then separated into four different washed coal products, which are either bagged or bulk shipped throughout Hayes Fuels extensive distribution network.

Comments

Ronan Conroy, Hayes Operations Manager, commented: “We have used the smaller Powerscreen Chieftains in the past, but the larger 2100X screeners work great for us. The coal coming off the ship can have a fairly high moisture content. The self cleaning screens on the bottom deck, combined with the action of the box, deal with this easily leaving us with a premium product after it’s washed and then graded on the second three deck Powerscreen Chieftain 2100X.

“We usually run on double shift rotation so downtime has to be minimal especially if there's a ship unloading at the dock. The parts and service backup from Powerscreen Ireland Ltd has been fantastic and was a deciding factor in our purchase.”
