India’s coal imports dropped 6% year-on-year in April to 15.6 million t – the first dip in three months, according to research firm, OreTeam.

"The fall in April can be attributed mainly to adequate stocking in previous months," said OreTeam research head Prakash Duvvuri. "Also, a good stockpile of coal is visible at ports with no disruptions expected in the coming months."

India is the third-largest importer of coal, with the country importing 158.8 million t of coal in the year ending 31 March 2014, according to OreTeam analysis.
