World Coal,

The first working group meeting in the environmental assessment (EA) process for Jameson Resources’ Crown Mountain coal project has taken place, the company said in a recent press release. The meeting included regulatory personnel from the British Columbia Environmental Assessment Office (EAO) and the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency, as well as representatives from the Ktunaxa First Nations.

Jameson personnel also attended the meeting, which took place over two days and included a site visit. Subcommittees will now be formed to review specific areas, such as wildlife, groundwater and spoil disposal, etc. The company is also planning an open-house event to introduce the project to local communities.

“The function of the working group is to provide guidance and advice throughout the entire EA process, culminating in issuance of an EA certificate,” Jameson said in a press release. “The certificate has an initial term of 5 yr and is renewable one for an additional 5 yr. Jameson’s plan is to acquire the EA certificate and then subsequently pursue the other permits necessary to build and operate a mine.”

Permitting activities are expected to remain at a high level over the next few months as the company aims to complete the draft application information requirements. These form the basis for preparing the complete permit application.

Jameson Resources is an ASX-listed junior resources company that is focused on the acquisition, exploration and development of coal projects in western Canada. In addition to its 90% stake in the Crown River project, it also owns the Peace River coal projects – also in British Columbia.

Its projects a located in the coalfields responsible for the majority of Canada’s metallurgical coal exports and are close to existing railway links to export facilities. Canada produces about 76 million tpa of coal, of which about half is metallurgical coal, according to Natural Resources Canada. The vast majority of this metallurgical coal is exported.
