Kibo Mining has signed a memorandum of understanding with General Electric International with respect to the development of the Mbeya coal-to-power project (MCPP) in Tanzania.

Under the MoU, GE and its affiliate companies will supply equipment, technology and services for the MCPP power plants, as well as exploring opportunities to help Kibo bring the project to a successful financial close.

“We are extremely pleased that we have established this relationship with GE,” said Kibo CEO Louis Coetzee. “We are looking forward to working with GE and benefiting from its expertise and reputation in the power sector.”

The MCPP aims to develop a 350 – 350 MW mine mouth coal-fired power plant in Tanzania. Kibo is currently working on a coal mining definitive feasibility study and power pre-feasibility study for the project.
