Kibo Mining has announced the findings of Phase 1 – Stage 1 of its definitive mining prefeasibility study (DMFS) for the mining element of the Rukwa coal-to-power project in Tanzania.
Four alternative options were identified for project development with the project financially feasible in all cases. Annual coal sales revenues were estimated at US$39 million – US$43 million on the basis of 1.6 million t in annual sales.
“We are delighted to deliver this DMFS update to investors,” said Louis Coetzee, CEO of Kibo Mining.
The DMFS was undertaken by Minxcon (Pty) Ltd. The four options investigated included: contractor mining with crusher only; contractor mining with destoning plance; owner-operated mining with destoning plant; and owner-operated mining with destoning plant excluding crusher.
The Rukwa coal mine will form part of a coal-to-power project in southwestern Tanzania, about 70 km northwest of the regional capital, Mbeya. Kibo is currently undertaking a power prefeasibility study for the power part of the project, which will include a 250 – 350 MW mine mouth power plant.
