NMA: EPA regulations to bring increased electricity prices

The National Mining Association has warned the US Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) soon to be revealed plan to impose new far-reaching regulations on emissions from existing power plants will bring unwanted increases in electricity prices for consumers and businesses.

Under this clean power plan, the EPA has created an ‘electricity emissions budge’ for each state. The budgets are based on complex assumptions about future electricity demand, changes in electricity sources, and reductions in energy use. It is urging states to submit their own power plans based on these outlooks.

Luke Popovich, Vice President of communications for the National Mining Association, stated: "This plan is all pain and no gain. That's why state leaders across the country are coming to the same conclusion—that we should not sacrifice our power system to an unworkable plan built on a faulty interpretation of the law."
