Gregory Boyce receives WCA award

Peabody Energy chairman and CEO Gregory H. Boyce has received the WCA Chairman’s Special Award by WCA chairman Dr Zhang Xiwu. Dr Zhang is also the chairmand of Shenhua Group Corp., China’s largest coal producer. The award was presented at the the association’s board of directors meeting in Canberra, Australia.

"The WCA is pleased to recognise the global leadership role [Boyce] has played in improving mine safety standards," said Milton Catelin, CEO of the WCA. "The 2014 WCA Chairman's Special Award recognises the importance of global leadership on mining safety and commends Greg for his significant work in this area."

"The honour is a credit to the more than 8300 Peabody Energy employees who make safety our shared value and way of life, who commit to a vision of incident-free workplaces and who take accountability for safe behavior and practices at work and away," said Boyce. "All mining workers have a right to arrive home safe at the end of the day and we must do everything we can to provide safe workplaces in the global mining sector."

As former chairman of the US National Mining Association, Boyce joined industry leaders in developing and securing commitment to CORESafety, a state-of-the-art safety and health management system for the US mining industry.
