President Trump has signed an Executive Order to dismantle the Obama administration’s climate regulations, pulling the US out of an international deal to fight global warming.

The decree, which reverses a ban on coal leasing on federal lands, undoes rules to curb methane emissions.  The American Coal Council has released a statement welcoming the news and “appreciates President Trump’s efforts to restore balance and fairness to the regulatory process, support job creation, strengthen energy independence, and lay the foundation for rebuilding and sustaining our nation’s vital coal industry.”

The move has drawn a swift backlash from a coalition of 23 states and local governments, with environmental groups vowing to aggressively oppose the order in court.
