Queensland invites coal exploration tender
The government of Queensland, Australia, has issued non-cash tender for coal exploration in the Bowen Basin of central Queensland, during the 2013 Mining Convention in Brisbane.
The Department of Natural Resources and Mines will offer seven areas of land for coal exploration, which collectively cover over 1292 km2 in the northern Bowen Basin.
Natural Resources and Mines Minister Andrew Cripps explained that the new framework for coal exploration provides an opportunity for junior explorers to make an impact in the area.
"This new framework for coal exploration permits allows for the assessment and comparison of potential tenderers, ensuring land is allocated to those most able and committed to effectively explore for potential resources," Cripps added.
The government will process applicants based on their proposed work programme and the associated technical and financial capability to meet that work programme.
"Tenders of this type support the next wave of exploration discovery and ensure that investment practices in exploration activities promote the long-term prosperity of Queensland and our resource industries," Cripps continued.
