Carabella estimates coal reserves
Carabella Resources, a coal exploration and development company, has reported an initial JORC reserves estimate of 11 million t for the Bluff ultra-low volatile PCI project in Queensland, Australia.
In July, the company announced a resources estimate for the coal project of 21.5 million t, comprising indicated resources of 11.2 million t and inferred resources of 10.3 million t.
Carabella has undertaken a five hole in-fill drilling programme to enable further resource delineation, as well as conversion from inferred resources category into mineable reserves.
Environment application
The company filed an Environmental Authority (EA) application for the Bluff coal project under the Queensland government’s new Green Tape Reduction process in early November. Supporting documents cover all matters required to be addressed under the approval process, including flora and fauna, surface and groundwater, social impact and transport, aquatic and stygofauna, air quality and noise surveys and studies.
The Department of Environment and Heritage Protection will now assess the EA under a six stage approvals process, which includes public comment. The mining lease application will be processed alongside the EA application. Carabella expects the project approvals to be received in early 2014.
