World Coal,
The programme builds on their 2021 virtual engagement programme and is an opportunity for the group to further enhance its understanding of the critical issues surrounding coal mining in Colombia. It will also enable them to foster better relationships with all stakeholders involved in this complex environment, from business to government, and from international NGOs to local communities.
Bettercoal has been working with Colombian coal producers since the inception of the organisation; and the Colombia working group was formed in 2018. The Group works to ensure that Bettercoal Producers in Colombia continue to make progress on their ‘continuous improvement plans’ as well as exploring activities aiming to have a positive impact on specific broader issues the group has identified. The issues of responsible mine closure and economic diversification, access to clean water, and fostering increased dialogue in the peace building process have been key priorities for the group for the past three years, and will be a focus for our discussions during this programme.
