UPDATE: Coal India calls off strike
Coal India officers have called off their three-day strike after receiving assurances from the company chairman on pay-related demands.
"We have called off our strike as Coal India's chairman has promised our demands will be met within a few weeks. If it does not happen within about four weeks, we will go on an indefinite strike," explained P.K. Singh, secretary general of the Coal Mines Officers' Association.
Strike notice
The company said in a statement earlier this week that the officers’ association had served a strike notice “against non-finalization of performance related pay, new pension scheme and other demands”.
State-owned Coal India frequently falls short of output targets due to employee strikes and delays in getting mine expansion approvals.
A company spokesman could not be reached for comment.
