China plans emergency coal stockpile
The Government of China is planning to amass a 5 million t emergency stockpile of coal. According to the China Economic Herald, the Government has asked top producers, including Shenhua Eenergy, to begin stockpiling to help alleviate bottlenecks that limit the available supply during peak demand seasons.
A 5 million t stockpile equates to about 2% of China’s monthly coal output.
Coal fired power produces almost 80% of China’s electricity generation. The country consumes around 3 billion tpa of coal.
