Linc Energy wins Polish coal exploration license
Linc Energy has been awarded the Kobior Coal Exploration License in the central Upper Silesian Coal Basin, Poland. The area contains estimated resources of 2.8 billion t of coal and covers 134 km2.
Polish exploration
Following the successful phase one exploration program and positive results in its estimated 1.2 billion t Polanka Wielkie Drogi (PWD) concession, Linc Energy views this as a significant addition to its Polish portfolio, which is now estimated to be in the region of 4 billion t.
Underground coal gasification
Linc Energy is currently defining its first UCG (underground coal gasification) project in Poland on its PWD coal exploration lease and hopes to make further announcements over the next few months outlining its short term UCG deployment programme.
Linc Energy CEO, Peter Bond, commented: “The Kobior license allows Linc Energy to build on the exciting progress achieved to date in our PWD license area by adding further prospective UCG assets in a country with a high demand for gas and strong support of UCG from the government.
Energy independent
“The conversion of this volume of incremental coal resource could, on its own, be sufficient to supply 20% to 35% of Poland’s gas requirements for decades to come, its actually possible that Poland could become energy independent on the back of UCG.”
