Ncondezi receives approval for Mozambique coal mine

Ncondezi Energy has received environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA) approval from the Mozambique Ministry for Coordination of Environmental Action for its coal mine in Mozambique.

The company’s next step is to begin the application process for an environmental permit of the project, which is part of the 300 MW integrated thermal coal mine and power plant project near Tete, Mozambique.

With construction planned to begin in 2014, commissioning for the Ncondezi mine is planned for the second half of 2016 to meet the power plant stockpile requirements.

Ncondezi has also recently completed an additional infill drilling of 33 core and 3 LD holes within a target mine area of the South Pit to further increase drill density.

The drilling has been focused within a ring fenced area capable of supplying the required coal for the first phase of the 300 MW power plant for more than 25 years.

The drill programme results and an updated Reserves and Resources statement are expected in Q4 2013.
