In the lead up to COP21, The World Coal Association appoints Milagros Miranda Rojas as the new Policy Director.

Benjamin Sporton, WCA’s CEO, stated: “As Policy Director, Miranda will be working with me and the rest of the team to further develop and deliver our key strategies in the lead-up to COP21. Driving forward the WCA’s global Platform for Accelerating Coal Efficiency (PACE) from concept to reality will also be a key part of Milagros’ new role. Her knowledge on the issues of sustainable development and international trade will be of substantial benefit to the WCA and I strongly believe that she is an exciting addition to our team.”

Milagros joins the WCA with wide experience in sustainable development issues, international economic negotiations and significant knowledge on international trade issues.

Milagros commented: “I am very happy to be onboard an organisation with such an ambitious strategy, particularly as we head towards COP21. The WCA has an important role to play in raising awareness of the importance of coal in the global energy mix and the huge potential of high-efficiency low-emissions (HELE) coal technologies and carbon capture and storage (CCS) in reducing global CO2 emissions. In particular, I look forward to progressing the PACE initiative, which offers the potential to reduce global CO2 emissions by two gigatonnes – a significant contribution to meeting our climate objectives.”
