Coal India sets new performance records

Coal India Ltd has reached a new record in the 2014 – 2015 fiscal year, producing 494.23 million t of coal – 6.9% upon the previous year.

"The increase in production in absolute terms was 31.81 million t, which is highest ever incremental increase in a single financial year since the inception of the company", stated Sutirtha Bhattacharya, Chairman of the flagship coal mining monolith.

He continued: "it means, in a single year, we have achieved 42.5%, of the absolute increase of 74.93 million t, recorded during the entire XI Five Year Plan. The important challenge is to ramp up our production to match with the targets and sustain it".

Raw coal off-take was 489.34 million t, increasing of 17.76 million y/y – a growth of 3.8%.

The company beat its overburden removal target, removing 889.80 million m3 of overburden during 2014 – 15, reaching 102% of the target and recording a growth of 10.3%. Bhattacharya said, "We are happy about the good growth rate in over burden removal. It is an important performance criterion as it improves the mine geometry and exposes the coal seam for future mining. It also makes mines safer to operate".

Coal India saw improved coal supplies to power utilities – an 8.6% growth. Despatch of coal and coal products was 384.18 million t, an increase of 30.35 million t from 353.83 million t in 2013 – 2014.

The company’s average loading per day increased by 4.3 rakes. On an average, 194.5 rakes were loaded per day during 2014-15, whereas in the previous year 190.3 rakes were loaded per day – a 2.3% y/y increase.
