World Coal,
The US National Mining Association (NMA) has filed a request with the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to delay implementing the Clean Power Plan, which was unveiled by President Barack Obama yesterday, until the courts “have the opportunity to determine the lawfulness” of the plan.
“The EPA’s final Clean Power Plant reflects political expediency, not reality for supplying the nation with low-cost reliable power,” said the NMA’s President and CEO, Hal Quinn. “Left in place are targets for replacing affordable energy with costly energy. These will burden Americans with increasingly high costs for an essential service and a less reliable electric grid for delivering it.”
Should the EPA refuse to delay implementing the plan, the NMA said it would ask the courts to do so.
