New coalbed methane pipeline on the cards in India

Natural gas from Indian coalbed methane (CBM) fields will be carried across country in a 300 km pipeline, which will be part constructed by China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC).

Reliance Industries Ltd has awarded CNPC a contract to build 200 km of the 302 km pipeline from central India to the north of the country, according to the newspaper, China Petroleum Daily.

The value of the contract has not been reported.

Reliance Industries has CBM fields in Madhya Pradesh state in central India. The company, controlled by billionaire Mukesh Ambani, needs a pipeline to carry gas from the CBM fields to customers in Uttar Pradesh state when production at the fields begins next year.
