West Virginia-based Swanson Industries is to acquire Waratah Engineering, formerly Kopex Australia, a New South Wales based specialist in remanufacturing longwall roof support systems and mobile equipment.

According to Swanson Industries President and CEO, Steve Sangalli, the transaction “fulfills another step in our strategy to be a full service supplier to the Australian mining markets”.

Waratah is Swanson’s third acquisition in the Australian mining market, after the US company bought Jarvie Enginering and Goninan Platers in 2014. Waratah, Jarvie and Goninan are all located in Newcastle, New South Wales.

“The combination of industry expertise is such a natural fit that the sharing of resources, practices and knowledge is assured to improve our combined ability to provide Swanson’s international customers with a fully-capable alternative to the traditional OEM suppliers,” said Sangalli.

In additional to Australia and the US, Swanson also operates in Chile.
