South African utility, Eskom, has awarded a contract to GP Strategies Corp. to provide training services at its Medupi coal-fired power plant. The contact extends an existing training programme to include the development of a comprehensive new operator-training programme and an Eskom instructor-training programme.

“We are once again pleased with the vote of confidence Eskom has shown in GP Strategies with this new contract to support additional operator training of the Medupi operators,” said William Green, vice president of energy services at the company. “Our collective efforts will help to ensure that the operators of the first four units will be fully prepared to operate the plant in a safe, efficient and environmentally responsible manner.”

The Medupi plant is currently under construction with first power expected to be delivered by the end of this year. The new plant will consist of six units of 800MW for a total capacity of 4800 MW, making it the fourth largest coal-fired power in the southern hemisphere.

GP Strategies Energy Services Group provides engineering services, performance and condition monitoring products and training services to the energy market sector.
