The Norwegian national program for research, development and demonstration of technology for CO2 capture, transport and storage technologies for power generation and other industrial sources, CLIMIT-Demo, has approved funding for a project collaboration between a leading carbon capture technology company, ION Engineering, and the Trondheim, Norway based research organisation SINTEF (The Foundation for Scientific and Industrial Research).

ION Engineering and SINTEF have joined to collaborate on a project that will focus on the design, construction and demonstration of real-time online analysis of ION’s solvent used in carbon dioxide capture.

After the real-time online analysis tool has been developed, it will create improved controls over solvent based carbon dioxide capture process and improve he solvent technology’s efficiency.

The collaborative project will focus on the design, construction and demonstration of real-time online analysis of ION’s solvent used in carbon dioxide (CO2) capture. Once developed, the real-time online analysis tool will create improved controls over solvent based CO2 capture process and improve the efficiency of ION’s solvent technology.

In October, ION successfully completed pilot scale testing of its proprietary solvent and process technology for the removal of carbon dioxide from large point sources, including natural gas and coal-fired power plants. Throughout testing, ION captured over 99% of the incoming carbon dioxide, while maintaining stable process operation and meeting project objectives.
