Thiess has been awarded a 12-month contract extension by BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) to continue providing mining and maintenance services at the Caval Ridge Mine in Queensland, Australia.

Thiess Executive Chairman and CEO, Michael Wright, said: “We are very pleased to continue our involvement at the Caval Ridge Mine, where we’ve been working with BMA from the beginning, initially helping build the mining infrastructure, and now to continue to deliver safe and efficient mining operations.”

“This contract continues our investment in the local economy by creating jobs that support families and surrounding communities and furthers the development of Moranbah.”

Thiess Executive General Manager Australia, Shaun Newberry, added: “This award is recognition of our team’s commitment to work smarter and ensure we deliver long-term productivity gains for our clients. We look forward to continuing our strong relationship with BMA to deliver safe operations and the efficiencies needed to keep the mine competitive on a global scale.”

Thiess’ involvement at the Caval Ridge Mine extends back to 2012 when it supported the development of the mine complex, including constructing and commissioning the mine’s coal preparation plant (with Sedgman), the rail loop and mine infrastructure. Thiess has delivered mining operations, since 2017 under successive contracts.

This award follows Thiess securing a 12-month contract extension to provide mining services for BMA at Caval Ridge’s neighbouring mine Peak Downs earlier in the year.
