West Cumbria Mining (WCM) has announced the completion of its definitive feasibility study (DFS), which is a major milestone in the development of its plans for the creation of the Cumbrian metallurgical coal project to supply steelmakers in the UK and EU with high quality hard coking coal.

This latest milestone follows the completion of the pre-feasibility study (PFS) in May 2016 and interim DFS in July 2017.

Commenting, Mark Kirkbride, CEO of West Cumbria Mining said: “The completion of our DFS is a significant and key step in the development of our project. The final feasibility study is an essential part of any mining project and draws together the extensive exploration, technical design, sample testing, market studies, risk assessments, implementation plan and overall strategy for the construction and operation of the mine, using information collected and produced by the WCM team and expert advisors since 2014.

“In addition to the detailed technical report, the DFS includes a comprehensive financial and economic model which confirms the viability of our project and ultimately the ability to deliver Woodhouse colliery into successful operation.”

WCM is now focused upon the completion of the detailed post-planning approval process and progression to the commencement of Stage 1 Construction activities, which will include site establishment and critical tunnel drives into the coal seams.
