According to a source from the company, Korea Southern Power Co Ltd has bought 148 000 t of Indonesian sub-bituminous coal for July shipment via a tender closed on 14 May.
The South Korean company initially intended on purchasing a total of 308 000 t of steaming coal via two spot tenders but passed on one.
South Korea, the second largest importer of Australian coal, will reduce its dependence on the fossil fuel as part of a wide-ranging plan to green its economy.
