Coal India Limited has beaten its production target for October, for the first time in seven months, Reuters reports.
The company produced 40.2 million t of coal in October, higher than its target of 39.74 million. Production between April and October however was 97% of its target.
October saw the opening of one of Coal India’s major mines, while coal production remained uninterrupted by rain-related disruptions.
Reuters added that Coal India failed to meet its offtake target for October and now faces a considerable challenge meeting its goal for the 2014/15 fiscal year.
Though coalbed methane could provide ample gas to meet India’s supply needs, low prices and potential infrastructure bottlenecks could cap production growth and delay investment.
