NuEnergy Gas has started drilling at its coalbed methane (CBM) well, RE-CBM-01CE, at the Rengat PSC in Central Sumatra, Indonesia. It is approximately 195 km south of Penkanbaru.
NuEnergy has used the MCQ 700 fully-hydraulic automated truck-mounted rig and drilled to a 495 km depth. The company has reported that is used the MCQ 700 because it has both coring and drilling top drives, a reduced carbon footprint and inter-well mobilisation.
Once this drill is completed, the company plans to mobilise it to the second well, RE-CBM-02CE, which is located 30 km southwest of RE-CBM-01CE. The company plant to carry out permeability testing on coal formations to indentify and locate coal continuity throughout the basin for further development.
