On 14 March, Representative Larry Bucshon (R-IN) introduced the ‘Electricity Reliability and Fuel Security Act’ to provide a temporary tax credit for coal-fired power plants.

The American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity (ACCCE) issued the following statement by Paul Bailey, President and CEO:

“We support the Electricity Reliability and Fuel Security Act because the continued retirement of coal-fired power plants across the country is threatening the reliability and resilience of the nation’s electricity grid.

“So far, more than one-third of the nation’s coal fleet has retired or is expected to retire. We are grateful that Congressman Bucshon has introduced legislation that would provide a temporary solution to coal retirements while policymakers evaluate what steps should be taken to ensure the grid is reliable and resilient.”

ACCCE is a partnership of industries involved in the production of electricity from coal. Coal is an affordable, reliable, and fuel secure energy resource that provides almost one-third of America’s electricity.
