A new through seam blast world record is reached

Dyno Nobel has achieved the largest through seam blast ever recorded to date using electronic detonators.

In central Queensland, Australia, on 24 April 2015, the company used 4788 DigiShot Plus electronic detonators to fire a through seam blast at a large opencast coal mine – a new through seam blast world record.

Loaded over the course of 16 days, 4788 DigiShot Plus detonators were used to initiate 1729 blast holes on four terraces with no misfires. The DigiShot Plus electronic platform provided the timing flexibility required for this project. This system is capable of initiating up to 9600 detonators with a blast duration of 20 000 ms in 1 ms increments.

Those involved in the designing and engineering of this blast included Drill and Blast team, DynoConsult®, the Dyno Nobel Asia Pacific (DNAP) Electronics Conversion Team and DNAP Operations.
