Irwin Mine and Tunneling Supply acquires equipment repairs companies

World Coal,

Irwin Mine and Tunneling Supply, an affiliate of Irwin Car and Equipment, has purchased Mescher Manufacturing Co. of Big Rock, VA, and Radford Remanufacturing & Assembly of Radford, VA. The consolidation of these businesses at the 12 000 ft2 facility in Big Rock strengthens Irwin’s ability to provide quick turnaround servicing mining equipment for customers throughout southern West Virginia, eastern Kentucky and southwestern Virginia. In addition to stocking a wide selection of spare parts, the Big Rock facility enables Irwin to be a single source for component repair, rebuild services and new equipment. Those products include mine cars, MSHA-approved rubber tyre jeeps, gear boxes and rock dusters.

William Baker, President and CEO of Irwin Car and Equipment, commented: “This investment demonstrated our strong commitment to the mining sector. Mescher and Radford customers are now able to benefit from Irwin’s technical expertise and service. The Big Rock facility complements our other regional service warehouse operations in Waynesburg, PA, and Beckley, WV”.

Irwin’s acquisition of Mescher and Radford is a continuation of the company’s growth in the industrial rail and mining equipment sectors over the past year. In 2014, Irwin acquired traction Motor Service for its full-service railroad motor repair capabilities, TDT for its complete lines of rock dusting equipment and belt products, and America Mine Services for its rock dust storage bins and hopper slinger duster technology.
