Weekly production at US coal mines totaled 16.5 million short t, according to the latest production estimate from the US Energy Information Administration – a drop of 14% on last week’s figures and 13.3% on the same period last year.
Production east of the Mississippi dropped from 8 million short t to 6.9 million short t, while west of the river, production fell from 11.2 million t to 9.6 million t.
Year-to-date production now stands at 139.6 million short t - 0.8% higher than at the same point last year.
