“Together we have maintained a safety focus, allowing us to qualify for an award like this,” said Joe Vaccari, general manager at the Cordero Rojo mine. “We will continue to be focused on performing our jobs safely and going home to our families safely at the end of each and every shift.”

The award was presented by the Mines Inspection and Safety Division of the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services at the annual Wyoming Safety and Workforce Summit.

About 25 miles south of Gillette in the Powder River Basin, Cordero Rojo is the third largest mine in the US. In 2013 it sold 36.7 million short t of coal, mainly to generate power in the western, midwestern and southeastern US.
