Coal will remain an essential part of the UK energy mix for at least the next ten years, according to the Association of UK Coal Importers, despite government plans to phase it out by 2025.
Eskom is continuing with its capacity expansion with the construction of two coal-fired power plants, Medupi and Kusile, as well as a pumped storage scheme, Ingula.
