The Bluefield Coal Show has announced its line-up of paper and presentations for this year’s show.

Wednesday 16 September

Production experiences with proximity detection systems

Randy Moore, Director of Engineering at Matrix Design Group will review MSHA and West Virginia requirements for new and rebuild continuous miners, including the implications of MSHA personal wearable device requirements and practical experiences of installing and running proximity systems in high-production environments.

New developments in atmospheric monitoring systems (AMS) and underground camera systems

David Clardy, President, MDG (Matrix Team), will discuss the use of intrinsically safe and post-accident AMS Sensors for protection reserves and identifying subtle and major ventilation changes, including a review of West Virginia camera requirements for haulage and new camera system capabilities.

Mobile fire suppression choices and advantages

Brad Lamberton, Directory of Business Development at AFEX, will review of the design and varied topics of modern vehicle fire suppression systems. His message will include assistance if needed in the design of the fire suppression systems to best address the specific needs.

Moving forward with the latest VFD and control technology for continuous miners

Bonne Posma, CEO of Saminco Inc., will discuss improved control systems for 1000 V AC continuous miners through the use of variable frequency drives by controlling motor speeds, which lead to significantly increased production, reduced down time and assists in meeting the latest NIOSH and MSHA requirements for noise reduction, dust particulate and proximity detection.

Review of the latest NIOSH/MSHA approvals of the new CCERS/SCCRS

Steve Burning, President of the Ocenco Group, reviews the new requirements for NIOSH/MSHA approval of CCERs, the availability of new capacity one CCERs and capacity three CCERs.

Motor and coupling critical speed analysis

Dennis Heninger, Engineering Manager, Longwall Associates, describes a designed variable filled controlled soft start (longwall) power systems, including finite element analysis, speed analysis, motor design and bearing design.

The Bluefield Coal Show takes place between 16 and 18 September in Bluefield, West Virginia.
