Established in 1914 and celebrating its 100 anniversary this year, ExxonMobil’s Equipment Builder Group specialises in working with mining original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to develop lubrication solutions that assist mines in improving the safety, environmental awareness and productivity.
The group is made up of technical experts and engineers from a variety of disciplines. Its involvement with OEMs can start from the beginning of equipment conception through to design and construction. According to the company, “this unique level of insight, from the ground up, enables the team to develop recommendations on formulating lubricants that help to optimise the performance of equipment”
“These relationships have enabled ExxonMobil to push the boundaries in regards to lubrication formulation and performance,” the company continued citing the example of the Mobil SHC Gear™, which has the potential to help industrial organisations protect their gears and bearings, as well as extending oil life even under extreme conditions. “The new gearbox oil range can also offer the potential to improve the energy efficiency of mining equipment, with some tests recording energy savings up to 3.6%,” said the company.
The company also credits its Equipment Builder Group with helping to secure OEM approval and recommendations for its products, noting that its the Mobil SHC™ synthetic lubricants are approved for use in more than 10 000 applications and have endorsements from more than 2500 equipment builders, including Komatsu, BELAZ and P&H, Joy Global’s surface mining division.
