Gerald Luttrell to deliver Coal Prep keynote

World Coal,

Prof. Gerald Luttrell will deliver the keynote address at this year’s Coal Prep International show. Luttrell will provide a step-by-step overview of simple measures that coal preparation plant operators can take to ensure to reduce costs and increase productivity.

“The demand for domestic coal declined sharply during the past several years as a result of slow growth in the global economy, increased competition from natural gas and closures of older power plants to reduce carbon emissions,” said Luttrell in his abstract for the presentation.

“This shift in the energy market has forced many coal producers to seek out new approaches to reduce costs and increase productivity with limited capital investment,” Luttrell continued. “One of the most overlooked business units that can offer such opportunities are coal preparation and blending facilities.”

Luttrell is the E. Morgan Massey Professor of Mining and Minerals Engineering and Virginia Tech. Coal Prep International will take place in Lexington, Kentucky, from 27 – 29 April.
