Hwange Colliery Company Ltd is a public company listed on the Zimbabwe, Johannesburg and London Stock Exchanges and is the largest operator, in the business of exploring, mining, processing and marketing of coal and related products. The company now wishes to diversify its business by venturing into Coalbed Methane production. Hwange Colliery is located in the Matabeleland North Province in the western tip of the Republic of Zimbabwe.

Tenders are invited from suitably qualified and interested bidders with technical and financial capacity to carry out exploration and drilling activities in Lubimbi (Special Grants 4364 and 4764) measuring areas of 4 200ha and 10 995ha, respectively.

Hwange Colliery Company Ltd requires bidders to delineate coalbed methane and coal resources and reserves. For coal, bidders are required to produce a SAMREC compliant coal resource and reserve statement; for coalbed methane, bidders are required to produce a coalbed methane resource statement that is compliant to an internationally recognised code of practice for coal-bed methane.

Hwange Colliery Company Ltd seeks to use the coalbed methane, coal resource and reserve statement for funding/capital raising, and, as such, bidders should ensure that all provisions as per SAMREC Code for coal, and an internationally recognised code of practice guidelines for coalbed methane, are adhered to.

Bidders should submit their Expressions of Interest to participate upon which they will be given full details of this business opportunity. Bidders should demonstrate their financial and technical capability to carry out the above work when submitting their Expression of Interest.

Details of the required scope will be made available to interested bidders. A site visit can be arranged for interested bidders before submission of tender. Bidders should be existing geological exploration companies certified by regulatory authorities as appropriate to conduct exploration work in line with the SAMREC Code for coal and an internationally recognised code of practice for coalbed methane.
